Paralegal

TLW is looking for an experienced Paralegal to working within our insurance dispute team to help businesses resolve disputes they are having with their insurers.

Job description

What we are looking for

TLW is looking for an experienced Paralegal to working within our insurance dispute team to help businesses resolve disputes they are having with their insurers. This will involve exposure to both litigation and ADR.

We are looking for someone who is thorough with an eye for detail and the ability to work in a fast-paced environment. The successful candidate will also be commercially aware and open to learning new areas of law in a firm that continues to diversify, as and when opportunities present themselves.

The successful candidate must be able to research and analyse the relevant case law. They must have experience of managing their own workload and be able to work both alone and in a team, assisting other members of the team where necessary.

Responsibilities and Duties

Duties will include:

  • Taking detailed statements from clients and prospective clients.
  • Evidence gathering to support the claim.
  • Analysing documents, including insurance contracts.
  • Collecting and reviewing financial information, including accounts.
  • Working to court and other deadlines including associated tasks.
  • Communicating appropriate advice to clients.
  • Researching and keeping up to date on case law, the CPR and pre-action protocol, and FOS decisions.
  • Communicating and negotiating with insurance companies, loss adjustors, and defendant solicitors.
  • Drafting pleadings, schedules of loss, FOS submissions, briefs to counsel.
  • Instructing and liaising with counsel and expert witnesses.

Hours:-

  • Part-time hours would be considered but a 3-day week minimum is essential.
  • Some travel and overnight stays may be necessary.

Qualifications and Skills

The main focus is the review of policy documents, financial information, and case law.

The ideal candidate should possess:-

  • Thorough with great attention to detail.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to provide constructive feedback.
  • Active listening skills, including the ability to probe and gather further information.
  • Negotiation and persuasive skills.
  • Effective time management, including the ability to prioritise and organise work efficiently.
