TLW Solicitors feature in BBC One series ‘Northern Justice’

Latest News

Showing the important work that the team do and the help they provide to their clients, lawyers from TLW Solicitors are part of a new BBC1 documentary.

BBC1 has commissioned 10 half-hour programmes highlighting the work of lawyers across the North East of England.

When announcing the programme, in a press release, the BBC said:

“Northern Justice will reveal what happens when ordinary people facing all sorts of extraordinary times in their lives turn to local lawyers in their hour of need.”

Members of TLW’s team feature in a number of the ten episodes highlighting the life-changing work the team does each day.

The first episode in the series will be aired at 10am on Tuesday 20th September and features TLW Solicitor, Emily Barr from TLW’s specialist Pensions Mis-selling Compensation team. The episode focuses on a former soldier Kevin who was persuaded that he could get better returns by transferring out of his Armed Forces Pension Scheme. But before long, it looked like all his money was lost. The programme shows financial mis-selling solicitor Emily gathering all the evidence and working on getting his hard-earned pension back.

Emily features again in the second episode due to be shown on Wednesday 21st September. In another pensions mis-selling case, TLW client Barrie faces a financial crisis having been persuaded to invest in a hotel in Turkey by a cold caller. Financial mis-selling specialist solicitor Emily steps in to try and recover his money but faces many challenges along the way.

The TLW team is then covered again in the seventh episode of the series due to be shown on Wednesday 28th September. This time financial mis-selling specialist lawyer, Alex Laws helps Andrew, a retiree who lost his pension pot after receiving unsuitable advice from a regulated financial adviser. Alex investigates and pursues his claim for compensation to get his money back and his retirement plans back on track.

Ahead of the launch of the series, Emily will also appear on BBC1’s Morning Live show on Tuesday 20th September to discuss her part in the programme and the work that she does helping clients across the country.

The BBC 1 scheduling of the full series can be found here. The episodes will also be available to watch on BBC iPlayer.

Commenting on the team taking part in the BBC One programme, Peter McKenna, Partner at TLW Solicitors said:

“We were delighted to have been chosen by the BBC to feature in the Northern Justice series. The series will highlight the invaluable work that the team at TLW and other lawyers in the region do for our clients.

I am immensely proud of our team and the results we have delivered for our clients over the years across the UK. The programme showcases the very important work Emily, Alex and our other colleagues in the team do and the impact that their work has on the lives of our clients.”

It is rarely good advice to transfer out of a final salary, defined benefit (DB) or company pension scheme. Government watchdog, the Financial Conduct Authority is concerned about advice in 76% of firms advising on pension transfers.

TLW Solicitors has a specialist DB pension transfer claims team with experience in dealing with pensions across a wide range of industries and sectors.
